High transmission accuracy. Through precise machining techniques and appropriate tooth profile design, gear reducers can achieve high transmission accuracy. For example, in the transmission system of precision instruments and meters, the use of high-precision gear reducers can ensure the precise rotation of pointers or the precise displacement of other components.

In industrial applications, worm gear reducers and gear reducers each have their unique technical characteristics and application advantages. Worm gear reducer can achieve high torque and low-speed output through friction transmission between worm gear and worm gear, which is particularly suitable for situations requiring large transmission ratios. However, this design also brings about the problem of low transmission efficiency and certain energy loss.

Gear reducers transmit power through the meshing of multiple gears, resulting in high transmission efficiency and minimal energy loss. The structural design of gear reducers is flexible, and various types such as helical gears, bevel gears, cylindrical gears, etc. can be selected according to different application needs. Although the transmission ratio of gear reducers is relatively small, their efficient power transmission capability makes them important in many industrial applications.

1、 Transmission efficiency

Worm gear reducer

The transmission efficiency is relatively low. In general, the transmission efficiency of ordinary worm gear reducers is between 70% and 90%. This is because there is relatively large sliding friction in the meshing process of worm gear transmission. For example, in some slow and light load equipment with low efficiency requirements, such as the rotating device of small stage equipment, the efficiency loss may be acceptable to some extent.

Its efficiency will be affected by factors such as the number of worm heads, the number of worm gear teeth, and lubrication conditions. When the number of worm heads increases, the transmission efficiency will be improved.

Gear reducer

The transmission efficiency is relatively high, and the transmission efficiency of a general cylindrical gear reducer can reach 95% -99%. This is because gear transmission transmits power through the meshing of gear teeth, mainly through rolling friction, with relatively small friction losses.

For example, in the high-speed transmission device of industrial automation production lines, the use of gear reducers can effectively reduce energy loss, ensure efficient power transmission, and improve the overall operating efficiency of the equipment.

2、 Transmission ratio range

Worm gear reducer

The transmission ratio range is relatively large, and usually a single-stage transmission ratio can reach 10-80. If multi-stage worm gear transmission is used, the transmission ratio can reach higher values. The characteristic of this large transmission ratio makes the worm gear reducer very suitable for some situations that require significant reduction, such as in some lifting equipment, where the high-speed rotation of the motor needs to be converted into low-speed high torque output of the drum, the worm gear reducer can be used to achieve a larger reduction ratio.

Gear reducer

The transmission ratio of a single-stage cylindrical gear reducer is generally between 1-10, while for a bevel gear reducer, the transmission ratio is generally around 1-8. However, by combining multiple gears, a larger transmission ratio can be achieved. For example, in the feed system of some precision machine tools, multi-stage gear reducers are used to achieve precise reduction to meet the requirements for workpiece machining accuracy.

3、 Torque characteristics

Worm gear reducer

Has a high torque output capability. Due to the structural characteristics of worm gear transmission, the worm can be regarded as the principle of a screw jack, which can generate a large axial force under a small input force, thereby enabling the worm gear to output a large torque. In some situations that require high torque output, such as the opening and closing devices of large valves, the use of worm gear reducers can effectively meet the requirements.

However, its output torque is also limited by factors such as the material strength and modulus of the worm gear and worm gear.

Gear reducer

The torque output capability is also strong, but compared to worm gear reducers, the torque output may be slightly smaller under the same size and material. However, gear reducers can improve their torque carrying capacity by increasing modulus, gear width, and other methods. For example, in automotive transmissions, the parameters of gears are designed reasonably to ensure that they can withstand the torque output by the engine and effectively transmit power.

4、 Self locking performance

Worm gear reducer

In general, when the lead angle of the worm gear is less than the equivalent friction angle, the worm gear transmission has self-locking properties. This means that without external force driving the worm, the worm gear cannot drive the worm to rotate, which is very useful in some devices that require prevention of reversal. For example, in lifting equipment, the self-locking performance of worm gears can ensure that heavy objects will not fall on their own after stopping lifting, improving the safety of the equipment.

Gear reducer

It generally does not have self-locking performance. Gear transmission is reversible, and in some cases, if it is necessary to prevent reversal, additional braking devices need to be added. For example, in conveyor equipment running on slopes, electromagnetic brakes need to be installed to prevent cargo from sliding down after power transmission stops.

5、 Accuracy and Stability

Worm gear reducer

The transmission accuracy is relatively low. Due to the sliding of worm gear transmission, it is prone to wear and tear, which affects the transmission accuracy. During long-term use, the wear of the worm gear and worm can lead to an increase in clearance and the occurrence of backlash. For example, in some CNC turntable applications that require high positioning accuracy, worm gear reducers may need to undergo more frequent accuracy adjustments and maintenance.

However, in some low-speed heavy-duty situations that require high stability, the sliding characteristics of worm gear transmission can make the transmission process relatively smooth and reduce impact.

Gear reducer

High transmission accuracy. Through precise machining techniques and appropriate tooth profile design, gear reducers can achieve high transmission accuracy. For example, in the transmission system of precision instruments and meters, the use of high-precision gear reducers can ensure the precise rotation of pointers or the precise displacement of other components.
