The role and transmission requirements of gears
The function of gears:
1. Gears can transmit power;
2. Change the direction of force;
3. Change the rotational speed.

Transmission requirements for gears:
1. The accuracy of transmitting motion, that is, the driving wheel and the driven wheel should strictly transmit the angle of rotation according to the transmission ratio;
2. Transmission smoothness, that is, the involute tooth profile should be accurate enough, and the transmission should be smooth and uniform;
3. Uniformity of load distribution, that is, when transmitting power through gears, the tooth surface should have good contact to avoid stress concentration on the tooth surface, severe local wear, and reduced working life;
4. Tooth side clearance: A certain clearance should be left on the non working tooth side of a pair of meshing teeth to compensate for size changes caused by temperature changes, elastic deformation, and manufacturing and assembly errors of gears. Lubricating oil can also be stored.
Types of gears
Classified by working conditions (different forms of failure)
Open transmission: exposed → low-speed transmission, poor lubrication conditions, easy to wear and tear;
Semi open transmission: equipped with a simple protective cover, but still unable to tightly prevent debris from entering;
Closed transmission: gears and other components are fully enclosed within the box, with good lubrication and wide use.
