Right angle planetary gearbox: a unique role in the field of mechanical transmission
A planetary gearbox is an industrial transmission device designed to increase the output torque of a system by reducing speed. The main transmission structure of the planetary gearbox is: planetary gear, sun gear, and external gear ring. Named "planetary gearbox" due to its structure. The structure is relatively compact, with small return clearance, high precision, long service life, and the rated output torque can be made very large. But the price is slightly higher.
Planetary reducers are generally used when high torque is required in limited space, that is, small volume and large torque, and their reliability and lifespan are better than those of spur gear reducers. Positive gear reducers are used for applications with lower current consumption, low noise, high efficiency, and low cost.

Operating conditions:
The characteristics of planetary gearboxes are small size, high output torque, and high transmission efficiency. They can be used in any place with these requirements, such as cutting machines, pipe bending machines, bucket wheel machines, cement production lines, oil processing, fertilizers, power plants, cement, glass, and many other industries.
Characteristics of planetary gearbox:
High transmission efficiency
The planetary gearbox adopts a planetary gear transmission structure, with high meshing efficiency between gears. Generally, its transmission efficiency can reach around 90% -98%. This means that in the process of energy transfer, there is less energy loss, which can more effectively transfer power from the input shaft to the output shaft, thereby improving the energy utilization efficiency of the entire transmission system.
Large transmission ratio range
By designing the structure and number of teeth of the planetary gear system reasonably, planetary reducers can achieve a wide range of transmission ratios. The transmission ratio of a single-stage planetary gearbox is usually between 3-10, while when multiple stages of planetary gearboxes are connected in series, the transmission ratio can reach tens or even hundreds, which can meet the various requirements of different equipment for speed and torque.
Small size and light weight
Due to the compact structure of the planetary gear system in planetary reducers, multiple planetary gears are evenly distributed around the sun gear to share the load, resulting in a much smaller volume and weight of planetary reducers compared to other types of reducers under the same transmission power and transmission ratio conditions. Generally speaking, the volume of planetary gear reducers can be reduced by 1/2-1/3 compared to ordinary cylindrical gear reducers, and their weight can also be correspondingly reduced, making them easy to install and use. They are especially suitable for applications that require high space and weight, such as aerospace, robotics, and other fields.
High carrying capacity
The multiple planetary gears of the planetary gearbox mesh with the sun gear and inner ring gear simultaneously, and the load is shared by multiple gears, thus having a high load-bearing capacity. Compared with other reducers of the same size, planetary reducers can withstand greater torque and power, and can operate stably under heavy load conditions. They are suitable for various large mechanical equipment, such as mining machinery, metallurgical equipment, etc.
Smooth operation and low noise
The planetary gear system of the planetary reducer moves relatively smoothly, and the vibration and impact generated during the gear meshing process are relatively small. Meanwhile, by optimizing the design and manufacturing process of gears, as well as using high-precision bearings and other components, the noise during operation can be effectively reduced. In general, the operating noise of planetary gearboxes is about 5-10 decibels lower than that of ordinary gearboxes, providing a quieter and more comfortable working environment for equipment operation.
Long service life
The gear material of planetary reducers is usually made of high-quality alloy steel, which has undergone strict heat treatment and precision machining processes, and has high hardness and wear resistance. Meanwhile, its reasonable structural design and good lubrication conditions can reduce wear and fatigue damage between gears, thereby extending the service life of the gearbox. Under normal usage conditions, the service life of planetary gearboxes can generally reach 10-15 years or even longer.
Easy to maintain
The structure of planetary gearboxes is relatively simple, with a small number of components, and most of the components are designed with standardization, making them easy to replace. During the maintenance process, it is only necessary to regularly check the wear of the gears, the quality and level of the lubricating oil, and perform necessary lubrication and maintenance work. Compared with some complex transmission devices, the maintenance cost of planetary gearboxes is lower and the maintenance workload is also smaller.
